Home goods category is a sales driver for Amazon Prime Day, but not for Target nor Walmart’s sales events

report summary

Home goods category is a sales driver for Amazon Prime Day, but not for Target nor Walmart's sales events. Data-backed consumer insights and market analysis

Target, Walmart, and Amazon each have their own top-selling category for large sales events.

At Amazon, apparel received a 6.9pp boost in its share of sales on Prime Day October 2022 compared to regular shopping days. The electronics category, meanwhile, generally only accounts for 10% of Target’s total sales, but jumped to 21.6% during the retailer’s latest Deal Days.

However, the home goods category is more a driver for Amazon Prime Day than Target’s or Walmart’s Deal Days. During Amazon’s July 2022 Prime Day, weekly home sales nearly doubled. At Walmart and Target’s competing Deals Day sales during the summer, there wasn’t that same lift.
