n8n or Zapier: Who’s winning workflow automation right now?
By Dan Pellegrinelli, VP of Research @Yipitdata
New Signals data on workflow automation from 1,300+ mid-market and enterprise companies shows that n8n is continuing its breakout growth in 2026 and gaining traction within Zapier’s base — but higher-spend mid-market expansion and enterprise adoption remain limited.
n8n has grown its mid-market customer base more than 10x year over year — and nearly 80% of those new customers were already using Zapier. That's the headline finding from this week's analysis where we revisit n8n to assess whether the company is sustaining the rapid growth it saw in 2025 — and how it compares to incumbent leader Zapier across the mid-market and enterprise.
Our analysis is powered by Signals, YipitData’s proprietary B2B spend panel, which tracks real software usage and spend across 1,300+ mid-market and enterprise companies, covering approximately 250,000 AI and software vendors.
Once again, we are leveraging our Insight Agent to accelerate the analysis, surfacing patterns in switching behavior, multi-vendor adoption, and cohort growth directly from the data.
Workflow Automation Background: n8n vs. Zapier
Workflow automation tools range from systems like Boomi and MuleSoft that support major multinationals to low-friction, no-code tools like n8n and Zapier that help individuals, teams, and enterprises orchestrate workflows, automate processes, and increasingly deploy AI-powered agents.
n8n, founded in 2019, broke out last year as a fast-growing player in this category. They grabbed significant attention and raised a $60m Series B in March 2025 and a bigger $180m Series C in October 2025.
The key question now is whether that breakout momentum is continuing — and whether it’s translating into a meaningful shift in competitive position versus Zapier.
n8n’s Mid-Market Growth Continues — But Zapier Still Dominates
Our data shows that n8n is still growing quickly in the mid-market following its 2025 breakout.
Between January 2025 and January 2026, n8n increased its observed mid-market customer count more than 10x, growing from 12 to 122 customers. Growth has remained strong more recently as well, with customer count up 14% M/M from December 2025 to January 2026.
That said, Zapier remains the clear category leader in the mid-market, used by nearly half of the companies in our observed panel and continuing to grow its customer base Y/Y — albeit at a more moderate pace than n8n, in the single-digits.

In other words, while n8n is scaling quickly, it’s growing into a market where Zapier already has broad and deeply embedded adoption.
n8n’s Growth Is Largely Coming From Zapier’s Existing Customers
One of the most interesting signals in the data is where n8n’s growth is coming from. Nearly 80% of n8n’s new customer additions over the past year were already using Zapier. Rather than expanding into entirely new segments, n8n is gaining traction within Zapier’s existing installed base.
Direct switching between the two platforms remains relatively limited. Instead, we see a rise in multi-vendor usage:
16% of all customers using either n8n or Zapier are now using both tools
Among these joint users, customers are 50% more likely to drop Zapier than n8n
We also observe some switching from n8n back to Zapier, though less frequently

Taken together, this all suggests that n8n often enters accounts as a complementary or experimental tool — in some cases, becoming the preferred option over time.
Signs of Friction at the High End of the Mid-Market
While customer growth has been strong, expansion into higher-spend segments is less clear.
The share of n8n’s mid-market customers spending more than $10,000 annually plateaued at around 10% of its base in October 2025 and has remained flat since.

This suggests that while n8n is effective at driving adoption, it’s not yet consistently expanding customers into higher-value tiers. In practical terms, that can indicate either pricing constraints, product limitations at scale, or longer enterprise-style sales cycles that have yet to materialize.
Enterprise Adoption Remains Limited
Similar to the upper end of the mid-market, n8n’s enterprise traction appears to be stalling.
After a relatively strong start in early 2025, n8n's observed enterprise customer count has been roughly flat for the past four months. Over the same period, Zapier has maintained its enterprise lead, though its growth has also slowed.
Average ACVs among n8n's existing enterprise customers have increased modestly M/M, but this has not translated into meaningful new customer additions at the enterprise level.

The Bottom Line: Real Momentum, But Not a Full Shift
n8n has grown its mid-market customer base more than 10x year over year and is winning the replacement battle 2:1 inside Zapier's installed base — but that pressure hasn't yet translated into a broader market shift.
Zapier still commands broader adoption across the mid-market and enterprise, and n8n's expansion into higher-spend tiers has yet to materialize.
The share shift is real; the decisive moment hasn't arrived yet.

Based on YipitData’s analysis of 1,300+ mid-market and enterprise companies, tools like n8n and Zapier are increasingly used to power both traditional workflows and newer AI-driven use cases.
-
Based on YipitData’s analysis of 1,300+ companies, n8n is growing significantly faster in the mid-market, increasing its customer base more than 10x year over year. However, Zapier remains the category leader, with broader adoption across both mid-market and enterprise customers.
-
YipitData’s B2B spend data shows that nearly 80% of n8n’s new customers over the past year were already using Zapier. This suggests n8n’s growth is largely coming from expansion within Zapier’s existing customer base.
-
Based on YipitData’s B2B spend data, n8n is increasingly taking share from Zapier. Nearly 80% of n8n’s new customer additions over the past year came from existing Zapier users, and among customers using both tools, companies are 50% more likely to drop Zapier than n8n. Direct switching remains relatively limited, but the broader customer movement is increasingly in n8n’s favor.
