Home Goods Pure Play Winners and Losers

Wayfair’s pandemic gains waning

Wayfair remains the dominant pure player in the home category, with over two times the market share of its closest competitor, Bed Bath & Beyond. However, the retailer’s market share has dipped since the height of the pandemic, from over 30% in April 2020 to about 20% in April 2022.
The online retailer was better positioned than most competitors for the switch to online home purchases and government-mandated store closures. However, in-store consumer foot traffic is rising once again and thus Wayfair’s advantage is narrowing.
